BDEAC loans 15 billion FCFA to Gabon to fight coronavirus

The Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) loaned 15 billion CFA francs to Gabon in 2020. These funds have enabled the country to organize the response against the Covid-19 pandemic.

To help Gabon in its response against Covid-19, the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) has granted a loan of CFAF 15 billion to Gabon. The information was revealed by the president of the monetary institution after his hearing at the Prime Minister’s office on January 11 in Libreville.

“As part of the pandemic raging in the states of the sub-region, we have granted a loan of 15 billion CFA francs to Gabon,” said Fortunato-Ofa Mbo Nchama on Gabon 1re. At the end of its board of directors held in July 2020, the BDEAC had approved an envelope of 90 billion CFA francs in favor of its member states for the response against the Covid-19 pandemic.

This funding was intended, among other things, to equip public hospitals. In addition, the hearing between the president of the BDEAC and Rose Christiane Ossouka mainly aimed to take stock of the cooperation between Gabon and the monetary institution.

“This meeting made it possible to review the state of cooperation between BDEAC and the Gabonese Republic, analyze the difficulties experienced by certain projects in their execution, in order to find the appropriate solutions to relaunch the proper execution of said projects”, confided in Fortunato-Ofa Mbo Nchama. As part of the BDEAC strategic plan for the period 2017-2022, the monetary institution has financed economic operators in Gabon to the tune of CFAF 130 billion since 2017.
