Gabon: the State has paid off all debts under CFAF 70 million for 4 billion

If he is reluctant to pay the slightest franc to pay for the slates exhibited by hundreds of companies that he accuses of having tried to chip away at him, the Gabonese state would have, according to the spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, recently settled for 4 billion CFA francs his debts vis-à-vis companies that claim less than 70 million.

For cheaters, the presidential palace announces prison, at best, legal proceedings that can result in hefty fines. But for the companies which he believes have been fair in delivering the services for which they were requested, the Treasury has honored its commitments. In fact, following the appeal launched last October to companies with debts of less than 70 million CFA francs, the heads of the companies concerned have indeed gone to the cash register as promised at the time. the Ministry of Budget and Public Accounts.

In an interview in the L’Union newspaper on Friday (November 13th), Jessye Ella Ekogha says all companies that meet the condition of amount and validation by the domestic debt taskforce have received their money. “To date, attests the spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, all debts of less than 70 million have already been paid for an amount of 4 billion CFA francs.”

In the palace from which the taskforce receives its main orientations, people are reluctant to spend the least penny for other companies whose debt exceeds 70 million FCFA. Only, Jessye Ella Ekogha assures him: it is not a question of a refusal on the part of the Gabonese authorities to settle the debts of the State at the place of the companies having effectively delivered their sites. It is simply “the state will not pay what it should not pay,” he explains, not without warning that this time, “(the state) will not be robbed.”

If many companies that have properly fulfilled their part of the contract are awaiting payment, it is because the taskforce, presented as “more rigorous” with a “in-depth” work methodology, wants to do well to avoid further errors. By deciding to take his time before validating certain debts, “the objective of the State is to pay, in full and as soon as possible, what it must actually pay”, justifies the spokesperson for the presidency. Some will therefore have to keep their illness patiently for some time yet.
