Framework for “Transgabonaise” highway outlined, project to commence soon

The rehabilitation of the “Transgabonaise”, the longest road in Gabon, will be accelerated. The Council of Ministers have met this week to examine and approve the draft decree approving the partnership contract relating to the redevelopment and operation of this “economic route”.

The said contract was signed on October 24, 2019 between the Gabonese government and the French investment fund Meridiam as part of a public-private partnership (PPP).

It relates to the financing, development and maintenance of this corridor at a cost estimated at more than 600 billion FCFA. 780 km long, the project concerns two main axes: Nationals n ° 1 and 3 on the Owendo-Ndjolé-Carrefour Leroy-Lastourville-Moanda-Franceville section.

This road, designed to link the country from east to west, will connect  the large agricultural basins of Gabon. The project will be carried out and then operated by the Société Autoroutière du Gabon (SAG), owned by Meridiam and Arise, for a period of 30 years

This company is however not in its first experience in the country. It has already developed several partnerships with the Gabonese Republic which have notably led to the construction of the Owendo ore terminal.

The project is expected to genertate about 3000 direct and indirect jobs.
