The Congolaise des routes (LCR) has just deployed its teams on the main road linking Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire, to renew the asphalt wearing course. The work, supposed to take place during the month of February, aims to treat potholes and remove vehicle wrecks.
These are the first interventions by LCR on the road this year, as part of the road maintenance program provided for in the concession contract it signed with the Congolese state. According to LCR’s deputy general manager, Jean-Charles Lhommée, the operation involves milling the layer that has slipped, then resuming it.
“We have mobilized equipment and workers from our subcontractor CSCO Congo, one of whose bases is located along the national road 1 in Mayama, with all the equipment necessary for the rehabilitation of the paved roads, namely the asphalt plant, the quarry, the finisher, the compactors… ”, indicated Jean-Charles Lhommée.
The launch of maintenance work on the Brazzaville / Pointe-Noire road by LCR comes a few weeks after parliamentarians questioned the state of this road. The national elected officials who questioned the minister in charge, mentioned the existence on the way of the carcasses of vehicles and the degradation of certain road signs.
The head of LCR reassures that the launch of the work is on his agenda and is not motivated by the questioning of national elected officials. The works have been scheduled since November 2020, explained Jean-Charles Lhommée, adding that they are undertaken during the dry season so that they can be carried out without interruption.
“The routine maintenance that is carried out on a permanent basis will be reinforced in areas that require it so that the level of service offered to the user does not deteriorate. It should be noted that the partial withdrawal of the field teams during the few months of containment helped to redouble our routine maintenance interventions to get up to standard across the network, “he said.
During the work, the operating company invites road users to exercise caution when approaching work areas.
