UEAC adopts 90 billion FCFA

This is what emerges from the 36th ordinary session of this community body held on January 27, 2021. Meeting by videoconference on January 27, 2021 as part of their 36th ordinary session, the ministers of the Economic Union of Central Africa (UEAC) approved a budget of nearly 90 billion FCFA. A decision that confirms the work of the Interstate Committee of the UEAC which took place as a prelude to this meeting a few days earlier.

The work of this 36th session was chaired by Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), also president of the UEAC Council of Ministers.

MINEPAT declared that “this envelope should allow the development of community activities in particular, the realization of integrative projects as well as the optimal functioning of the institution”

Alamine Ousmane Mey “also reviewed the health situation and its repercussions on the economy of the sub-region. It is a question, according to him, of containing the spread of the virus and of limiting the negative impacts of the health crisis on our economies. Unfortunately to date, the situation does not seem to have fundamentally changed since there is a resurgence of the pandemic with new strains “

Our colleague stresses that with more than 2300 billion FCFA subscribed by donors for the financing of integrative projects, it goes without saying that CEMAC will not be left behind.

But to get there, “she needs all the resources she can get. Human, material, technical and financial. In the same vein, the Community should finalize the study on alternative sources of funding and submit strong proposals in order to definitively resolve the difficulties in obtaining the necessary means. During this working session, a set of texts for improving governance within the Community was also under discussion, as was the strategy for the sustainable industrialization of the timber industry in the Congo Basin, among others ”
