77 billion FCFA to ameliorate water supply in Grande-Libreville

Faced with the daily difficulties of access to drinking water for the populations of Grand-Libreville, the government and its partners are looking for appropriate solutions. It is in this context that the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources indicated, on January 26, that 77 billion CFA francs are being mobilized to provide viable solutions for the supply of Grand-Libreville.

The Minister of State in charge of the Department of Energy and Water Resources, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, indicated on January 26 that the Integrated Program for the supply of drinking water and sanitation in Libreville ( PIAEPAL), with a budget of 77 billion CFA francs, will be triggered before the end of March 2021. This project is “intended to improve the drinking water supply to Grand-Libreville”.

“Aware of the recurring situation of water shortage and / or under-supply in the districts of Libreville and the neighbouring municipalities, the government has decided to launch, with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), a vast development plan. ‘investment to the tune of 77 billion CFA francs,’ informs a press release from the ministry. The work on this site “scheduled to be launched before the end of March 2021, will last between 20 and 32 months, depending on the case”.

However, “in the meantime, to provide a solution to the under-production of drinking water, the Gabon Energy and Water Company (SEEG), delegatee of the public water and electricity, will commission the CIM-Gabon2 plant before the end of April 2021 ”. This intermediate solution will increase production capacity by an additional 36,000 m3 / day. Indeed, “faced with the emergency, the Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Hydraulic Resources, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, instructed the SEEG to take all necessary measures in order to provide assistance. ‘drinking water for populations, by all possible means’.

At a recent press conference, the member of the government stressed that this project, which will impact 350,000 people, will consist of repairing, strengthening, laying new pipes and extending the network. Concretely, it will make it possible to resolve the problem of access to drinking water expressed by users of the SEEG in the communes of Libreville, Owendo, Ntoum and Akanda.
