Oligui Nguema demands clarification over Gabon Debt Situation

On the instructions of the President of the Transition, the Debt Taskforce will, at the beginning of this year, audit the orders pending payment to the Public Treasury for the benefit of companies that acquired and delivered public contracts between 2021 and 2022.

This is rather good news for many companies that have been waiting for several years to recover their funds after the execution of public contracts. They should soon be paying up. However, in accordance with the instructions of the transitional president, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, a final check must be carried out.

In a recent press release, the commission set up in the aftermath of the coup d’état, responsible for monitoring, auditing and verifying the State’s holdings and debt, announced that it will conduct an audit of the orders pending payment to the Public Treasury. The Taskforce explains that this operation ” aims to verify the actual stock of outstanding orders and the effectiveness of the service provided .”

This audit, she specifies, is a first phase which concerns the orders for the 2021 and 2022 financial years. Therefore, the companies concerned are invited to send to the Taskforce all documents likely to constitute proof of their work, such as market agreements, letters, purchase orders or service orders, as well as their quotes and final invoices certified as services performed.

” Companies that do not appear [from 6 to 15 January 2025] will have their orders cancelled without the possibility of appeal ,” warns the Taskforce.
