Gabon’s PM lauches TransGabonaise road network

Announced some time ago by President Ali Bongo Ondimba, work on the economic road known as “La Transgabonaise” began on September 25, with the first shovel blows by the Prime Minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda.

The first phase of stage 1 of this large-scale project, according to the Prime Minister’s office, concerns 81 km of road from PK 24 to PK 105. Work will start as a priority on the section PK 50 – PK 75, then on the section PK 75 – PK 105 and finally on the PK 24 – PK 50 axis, once the environmental studies have been completed.

“The government will follow the construction of this road step by step. We also asked the operator to involve small and medium-sized businesses. This is a vast program that will require the support of these companies, which are the flagship of an economy. Involving them in a context of a health crisis will boost our economy and create jobs, ”said Rose Christiane Ossouka at the start of the work.

One of the main projects of Ali Bongo’s second term, “La Transgabonaise” is presented by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructures, Léon Armel Bounda Balonzi, as “the backbone which will drive the harmonious development of Gabon”. “This road will cross nearly 6 provinces, or 60% of the country,” he said recently, adding that “as promised by the President of the Republic, the impacts of such a project will be obvious and will significantly change the lives of Gabonese and those who live in Gabon ”.

Through the launch of the works, President Ali Bongo Ondimba intends to keep his word despite a particularly difficult economic situation linked in particular to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also to the drop in oil prices.

780 km long, the Transgabonaise will link Libreville to Franceville. According to sources from the Prime Minister’s office, this site was the subject of several impact studies, additional studies and working sessions between the government and technical partners, in particular the contracting company, the Société Autoroutière du Gabon (SAG). . The works are to be delivered in 2023.
