Gabon’s Food Bank goes operational, population receive food aid from Government

The Food Bank announced by President Ali Bongo Ondimba to help disadvantaged populations during this health crisis due to Covid-19 is now operational. Its activities were launched by the Minister of National Solidarity, Prisca Nlend-Koho.

Accompanied by the Ministers of  Youth and Sports, Franck Nguéma, of Agriculture and Fisheries, Biendi Maganga Moussavou, the government officials proceeded with  the distribution of foodstuffs, especially in structures housing vulnerable people such as orphans, abandoned children and the elderly.

They went in turn to orphanages (SOS Mwana, Arc-en-ciel, Fraternité Saint-Jean), but also to the reception center for children in social difficulties in Angondjé, where they donated lots of food food.

This stage marks the beginning of this operation which will particularly affect all the vulnerable strata of the country. “The head of state who has taken this salutary step for the people is a father. And in the case of this pandemic which rages in Gabon, but also elsewhere in the world, he thought that it was necessary that he himself as President of the Republic intervene with the population, in particular that vulnerable and which was impacted by the closure of their activities, given the containment, ” Prisca Nlend-Koho said.

Rice, cans, sugar, pasta, milk, soap, oil, flour, etc. were handed over to these structures, whose officials welcomed the act with joy, at a time when vulnerable people are even more exposed and more vulnerable.

“It is a duty of solidarity, of love that the President of the Republic sends to his fellow citizens. He has always said that he would not abandon anyone and he demonstrates this by this modest donation, which is not that modest, and which will concern the whole of Grand Libreville, ” Biendi Maganga-Moussavou highlighted.

The operation will continue throughout Greater Libreville in line with the announcement of the Head of State, Ali Bongo, of April 3, 2020, announcing the creation of a Food Bank as part of the response against Covid-19. “These donations will help increase the resilience of vulnerable populations in the face of the negative impacts of Covid-19. We salute this strong gesture of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba who anticipated with the taking of strong measures to prevent the spread of this pandemic in our country, “the Minister of Youth and Sports, Franck Nguema added.
