Idriss Deby Itno promises to settle Chad’s internal Debts

The debts owed to state suppliers, in accordance with the plan to settle the internal debt adopted by the Government, will be paid “as soon as possible.” Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno gave the announcement Tuesday in Ndjamena.

This clearance is set at an amount of 110 billion FCFA, double the amount provided for in the Government’s 2020 budget (51 billion FCFA).The payment will be made “by the mobilization of savings from Chadian banks, as already discussed and stopped with them”, according to the head of state.

In early January, the Government validated, during an Extraordinary council of Ministers, the plan for the settlement of Chad’s domestic debt.

The plan amounts to about 515 billion FCFA  for 9,571 files validated by the cabinet. With the State’s tax claims on certain service providers amounting to nearly  30 billion FCFA, the debt to be cleared after compensation could fall to  485 billion FCFA.

Overall domestic debt amounts to  1,412 billion FCFA. In addition to the 515 billion FCFA, it takes into account the debt contracted with the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) which amounts to almost  480 billion FCFA, the repayment of bonds and bonds of treasury valued at 392 billion FCFA in December 2019, as well as debts agreed with Commercial Banks which follow  a repayment schedule which is an integral part of the agreements signed.
