Gabon facilitates public transport to ease lock down stress

Gabon has announced free public transport as part of accompanying measures to mitigate the impact of the lockdown  of Grand Libreville, which took effect on Sunday April 12, 2020 at midnight.

Prime Minister Julien Nkoghe Bekale gave the details of the plan to apply this measure in his recent address to the nation. Thus, the State will support this measure with 6 billion FCFA, including a mobility plan by the Minister of Transport. The said plan will be provided by the companies Trans-Urb, SOGATRA and Trans-Akanda.

“It is planned to deploy in three (3) phases the fleet of 185 buses distributed in Grand Libreville, which includes the municipalities of Libreville, Owendo, Akanda, Ntoum as well as the Pointe-Denis seaside resort. Priority is given to agents who will continue to work in essential services in the public and private sectors,” the Prime Minister said. Gabon has put in place an Economic Safeguarding Plan and social assistance to the tune  of 250 billion FCFA to fight against the covid-19 pandemic which has already caused 57 contaminations including 1 death in the country, according to the latest assessment.
