Gabon unveils post COVID 19 revival plan for the Tourism sector

As part of the ministerial cabinet advice, the Prime Minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda, worked on September 23 with the Minister of Tourism, Pascal Houangni Ambouroue. This presented four axes that should help revive this high potential sector.

Gabon relies on the tourism sector to revive its economy. Within the framework of the ministerial cabinet advice, the Prime Minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda, had a working session on September 23 with Pascal Houangni Ambouroue. Accompanied by some of his collaborators, the Minister of Tourism presented to the head of government the four priority axes adopted by his department to address this sector strongly hit by the effects of Covid-19.

“The first axis from this point of view was compliance with barrier measures as part of the implementation of a health protocol within the Ministry of Tourism,” said Pascal Houangni Ambourouet. The second axis, he continued, concerns the establishment of a “change management plan”. It should allow the ministry to have regulatory provisions to effectively deploy its action and make Gabon the No. 1 choice in this sector in Central Africa.

The third axis, he underlined, is that of training and promotion. “Strategic marketing in the sector is extremely important to publicize the Gabon destination at the national, regional and international levels”, he commented, indicating that the 4th axis is that of innovation. “We presented the world forum on tourism in order to be able to integrate the issue of relaunching the sector through hotels, bars and restaurants which are now closed,” he said.

“We are working on the month of December to present the 2021-2023 action plan to Madam Prime Minister which will focus on the ambition of the Head of State in the field to ensure that we are one of the largest ministries in Gabon and, why not in Central Africa in the sense that we want to be the ministry that generates jobs and that would attract the maximum amount of foreign currency in our country, ”Pascal Houangni Ambouroue said.
