Gabon ranked 24th most attractive country in Africa

The Africa CEOs Survey 2020 published last September ranks Gabon 24th among the most attractive African countries for investment. The Africa Investment Attractiveness Index is based on responses from African business leaders to the question “Which African countries do you find most attractive to invest in at the moment?”

It is worse to invest in Gabon than in Ivory Coast. This is one of the lessons of the Africa CEOs Survey 2020, published last September and ranking the most attractive African countries for investment. Ali Bongo’s country is only the 24th most attractive African country in terms of investment, according to the report published by Cabinet Deloitte and the Africa CEO Forum. Gabon can however take comfort with a 2nd place in the Cemac zone, behind Cameroon.

Conducted in an exceptional context linked to the health crisis, this survey of more than 150 bosses offers new elements on the state of mind, the situation and the prospects of the African private sector. The Africa Investment Attractiveness Index is based on responses provided by African business leaders to the following question: “Which African countries do you find most attractive to invest in right now?” It aims to provide insight into the investment willingness of private sector leaders. According to Deloitte, “it is not intended to analyze the conditions for investing or the ease of doing business in the countries in question.”

As in 2019, Côte d’Ivoire is, according to the majority of private sector actors surveyed, the most attractive African country for investments out of the 50 considered in the ranking. As the report was published before the presidential election in that country, this attractiveness may wane with post-election events. Kenya (2nd) and Ghana (3rd) complete the podium of the Africa CEOs Survey 2020. This year, the bottom of the class in terms of attractiveness of investments in Africa are Lesotho, Eritrea and Burundi.
