Gabon pledges to fight corruption in 2021

Reinforced in its missions last November, the National Commission for the Fight against Illicit Enrichment (CNLCEI) which will now tackle corruption in 2021 will require, according to the government, a budget of more than 2.9 billion FCFA to carry out to the objectives assigned to it.

The discovery, several weeks ago, of about 440 billion CFA francs of bad debts claimed by many local companies from the Gabonese state, decided the authorities to strengthen and broaden the scope of the National Commission for the Fight. against illicit enrichment. On November 20, the Council of Ministers adopted two bills, the first of which establishes that the structure created 17 years earlier will henceforth be called the “National Commission against Corruption and Illicit Enrichment”.

To enable the new CNLCEI to fulfill its missions, the government estimates that it will need money … a lot of money. Also, after her stint in the National Assembly a few weeks earlier, Denise Mekam’ne m. Taty recently presented herself to the senators to request their review and especially the validation of the estimated budget of 5.8 billion FCFA to be allocated to mission 31 relating to “Independent administrative and regulatory authorities”.

In this overall envelope, the Minister of State for Relations with Constitutional Institutions and Independent Administrative Authorities specified that the CNLCEI’s share is 2,988,350,689 FCFA. This money should allow the structure chaired by Nestor Mbou to finance its activities planned for 2021, including a new awareness campaign and the continuation of the operation of declaring the assets of senior officials of the public administration and local communities through the country.
