On Monday, August 5, around the Deputy Prime Minister of the Transition, the Steering Committee responsible for preparing the China-Africa Forum (FOCAC) of September 2024 met to examine the summary document formulated for this purpose by the Technical Committee composed of various experts from sectoral ministries. Gabon sees this forum as an opportunity to strengthen its cooperation with China.
Under the coordination of Deputy Prime Minister Alexandre Barro Chambrier, members of the government, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Régis Onanga Ndiaye, reviewed the areas of cooperation between Gabon and China. Three weeks before the China-Africa Forum (FOCAC), the Gabonese side is refining its copy. ” China and Gabon began their diplomatic relations about fifty years ago and last year this relationship reached a new stage: it has become a strategic level relationship ,” commented the Minister of Mines Gilles Nembe after the meeting.
” The China-Africa forum is an opportunity for Gabonese companies to meet in China with their Chinese partners. During these meetings, discuss how to collaborate together, how to find solutions to the problems that the Gabonese people may experience ,” he added. China having upgraded its relationship with Gabon to a strategic level, the Gabonese side sees the Focac as ” a form of competition ” in which it must go with ” well-prepared files in order to best negotiate the interests of our country within the framework of a win-win bilateral cooperation ,” stressed Régis Onanga Ndiaye.
