Gabon gains 12 places in E-Government ranking

The gradual construction of digital Gabon has just propelled the country into the category of dynamic states in terms of e-government, according to the United Nations. With a score of 0.5401 out of 1, Gabon gains 12 places and is ranked 113th in the world out of 193 countries, 10th in Africa and 1st in the CEEAC zone.

Gabon, with a score of 0.5401 out of 1, occupies the 113th place in the world out of 193 countries surveyed in the classification of development of e-government (EGDI) of the United Nations, published on July 10, i.e. places better than in 2018. This result positions the country at the head of the Economic Community of Central African States and 10th in Africa.

According to the data compiled from this United Nations survey on e-government, Gabon is one of the sixteen countries that joined the high EGDI group in 2020, with 0.3235 points out of 1 for online services; 0.6250 for telecommunications infrastructure and 0.6719 for human capital. Likewise, the country registered an electronic participation index of 0.2738 points which ranks it 166 out of 193 globally.

In Africa, seven countries have moved from the low EGDI group to the medium group (Sudan, Mali, Mauritania, Comoros, Djibouti, Guinea and Equatorial Guinea), and eight have gone from the medium group to the high EGDI group (Namibia, Cape Verde, Egypt, Gabon, Botswana, Kenya, Algeria and Zimbabwe).

The survey supports countries’ efforts to provide effective, responsible and inclusive digital services for all and to bridge digital divides by respecting the principle of leaving no one behind.
