Gabon Energy and Water company releases criteria for free water and electricity provision

In this period of economic and health crisis in Gabon linked to covid-19, the Gabon Energy and Water Company SEEG has agreed to provide free water and electricity for almost 400,000 subscribers. The General Manager of the company, Alain Patrick Kouma, recently made public the criteria for the selection of clients benefiting from this exceptional measure.

It is one of the measures taken to support populations, as the coronavirus pandemic rages. The government has decided to make water and electricity free for 398,934 subscribers to the Gabon’s Energy and Water Company SEEG. The company which has just signed up to this measure will have to supply the residents eligible for this provision free of charge, including those who have arrears in paying bills.

The Director General of SEEG, Alain Patrick Kouma has made public the criteria for selecting the clients to benefit from this exceptional measure.

With regard to water, these are all customers in the “individuals” category. They represent a mass of 150,000 subscribers at a monthly cost of 2.229 billion CFA francs (3.39 million euros). Access to these measures will be effective by granting each subscriber concerned a credit of 20,000 CFA francs (all taxes included), the equivalent of 30.48 euros.

As regards electricity, the main beneficiaries are customers who have subscribed to a social tariff electricity subscription for a power ranging from 1 to 6 kW, which corresponds to a total of 248,000 subscribers, for a cost monthly valued at 4, 958 billion CFA francs (7.55 million euros).
