COMIFAC adopts 2021-2025 Operational plan

The Central African Forests Commission (Comifac) recently adopted with amendments the 2021-2025 plan of operations of the sub-regional convergence plan, following a virtual workshop aimed at examining and improving the content of the said document. and the restitution of the first conclusions of the mid-term evaluation of this plan.

“The Convergence Plan is recognized by all national and international partners, as a reference document to guide their actions, funding or activities in general. It should also urge the other countries of Central Africa to give Comifac all the means necessary for the functioning of its operational structures “, declared the director of the Program for the sustainable management of forests in the Congo Basin. He subsequently welcomed the operational roll-out of this plan over the five-year period 2021-2025, which will guarantee the success of its monitoring and implementation.

Having taken part in this virtual meeting, the Minister of Forests and Wildlife of Cameroon, also current president of Comifac, Jules Doret Ndongo recognized the importance of the convergence plan which accompanies the States of the sub-region in the development of sustainable forest and environmental management practices, with a view to an increased contribution of this sub-sector to the economic and social development of Central African countries.

“The mid-term evaluation of the plan launched by the executive secretariat of Comifac will make it possible to assess the performance of the past five years. Also to strengthen its role in guiding common forestry action and in preparing the major decisions to come on the sustainable management of tropical forests in the Congo Basin “, he said.

During this workshop, which lasted four days, several points were debated, resulting in resolutions and recommendations formulated by the participants for the implementation of the said document. The validation workshop was attended by representatives of several countries, including Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States …
