Chad seals two financial deals for Development

The Minister of Economy and Development Planning, Dr Issa DOUBRAGNE and the Resident Representative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Chad Ali Lamine Zeine, signed on Wednesday July 8, two additional grant agreements in co-financing with the European Union.

The signing of these grant agreements aims to improve the transport system in the Lake Chad Basin. It is to contribute to the development and economic competitiveness of the cross-border area of ​​Cameroon and Chad. These projects take into account road works, related developments, studies, transport and trade facilitation.

It is mainly about the construction of a bridge over the Logone river. Worth 19.2 million Euros or 12.6 billion CFA francs, this project will be co-financed by the European Union. According to the signatories, this project is a complement which comes to reinforce the own financing of the ADB for an amount equivalent to 14.1 billion CFA francs.

The second agreement concerns the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It is valued at 5.3 million US dollars or about 4 billion CFA francs. It supports the Reinforcement of Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2RS) Project, which is currently underway. P2RS covers all the member countries of CILSS. It will contribute to poverty reduction, improvement of food and nutrition security in the Sahel region.

Like the first, it is structured into three (3) components, namely: improving agro-sylvo-pastoral productivity in arid zones; promoting integrated ecosystem management for improving the resilience and conservation of biodiversity; knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation.

On behalf of the Government of Chad, the Minister thanked the AfDB and its representative in Chad, Ali Lamine Zeine for their support in government action for the protection of the environment. This, for the achievement of food sovereignty and the well-being of the rural world.

For its part, the AfDB Resident Representative in Chad is delighted with the fact that these two co-financings have materialized. They demonstrate the confidence of international partners in the Chadian government for the 2017-2021 National Development Plan (PND).
