AfDB releases Central African Economic Outlook Report today

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Regional office for Central Africa will launch the 2020 edition of the Regional Economic Outlook for Central Africa on July 16 by video conference.

The virtual meeting will, in fact, allow to decline the main conclusions of the 2020 edition of the report, to expose the macroeconomic forecasts of the institution in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. It will also be an opportunity to approach the thematic part devoted to human capital and skills development in Central Africa.

One of the AfDB’s flagship publications, this report provides an overview of the economies of Central Africa through a regional approach to development. The theme of the third and new edition is: “Human capital, employment and skills development in Central Africa”.

To this end, the high-level panel will bring together ministers from the region and regional authorities to discuss the content of the report, the impact of the pandemic on economies, as well as ways and means to improve the human capital and prepare young people for the skills required by the world to come.

This regional workshop will be followed by decentralized national meetings. It will be chaired by the AfDB’s Acting Director-General for Central Africa, Solomane Koné. As for the presentation of the report, it will be provided by Emmanuel Pinto Moreira, director of country economies, assisted by Hervé Lohoues, chief economist for the region.

Note that representatives of national and regional authorities, as well as the media, are invited to this regional part of the virtual launch of the publication. Launched national virtual workshops that will welcome non-state actors, in particular from the private sector, civil society, academics, etc., will be held in the countries during the week from 20 to 24 July 2020.
