CAMTEL launches largest Data Centre in Central Africa

This is the Zamengoé Data Center recently built by CAMTEL in the Lékié division, Centre region. It was visited on July 10, 2020 by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng. Cameroon now has its Data Center. According to the government,  it is the largest Data Center in Central Africa.

Built-in the locality of Zamengoé, Leie division of the Centre region, this imposing infrastructure rests on “a vast calm and green space of 3020 m2 … It consists of five buildings on the ground with the main building, a server room and a supervision room. With an automated energy management system, generators, fire detection and fire fighting system and an access management system and surveillance cameras.”

This architectural gem was recently built through the State, by the hand of “Cameroon telecommunications (CAMTEL) for an amount of nearly 10 billion FCFA.”

This cutting-edge infrastructure combines physical and cloud equipment. With him, Cameroon can now host sensitive data from its various entities, locally and at low cost.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, who visited the infrastructure on July 10, assured that investors and operators who increasingly request Data Center “will now be able to deploy their digital platforms and host their data safely in Cameroon.”

According to Judith Yah Sunday, Director General of CAMTEL, this storage centre is one of the “flagship projects of the second part of CAMTEL’s national Broadband Network program. It fills a real void and significantly enriches the telecommunications ecosystem in Cameroon and the sub-region. “

She also said: “The infrastructure will help develop the digital economy while facilitating access to hosting service platforms.”
