Big operation carried out by BW Energy. The oil exploration and production company announced on November 2 that it had acquired Atla and Balder aerial platforms from Borr Drilling for $ 14.5 million. Or 8,169 billion CFA francs.
Both platforms will be converted for use on BW Energy’s assets at Dussafu off Gabon. This conversion will allow BW Energy to “reduce capital investments by approximately $ 100 million compared to our previous development plan,” said its chief executive officer.
According to Carl Krogh Arnet, BW Energy “benefits from the availability of high quality jackup units at very attractive prices due to the current crisis in the drilling market”. By reusing the facilities, he added, “BW Energy will also achieve a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions linked to the development of the fields compared to a new platform”.
Seismic reprocessing carried out by BW Energy has indicated the potential for a substantial increase in in-place oil volumes from the Great Hibiscus, making further developments in the Hibiscus Beehive area very likely. According to officials at BW Energy, “calculations show that redeployment and conversion projects offer a 70% to 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to new assets built due to the reduction in steel consumption and short stays on site ”.
