World Bank intends to expand program on Skill Development aimed at boosting employment

The Director of operations of the World Bank (WB), Abdoulaye Seck, at the end of the interview he had with the Minister of Technical and Vocational Education, Nicéphore Fylla de Saint-Eudes, promised to boost the activities of the Skills Development Project for Employability (PDCE).

During their discussions, the two personalities took stock of the cooperation between the Republic of Congo and the WB on everything relating to vocational training, youth employment, in short human capital.

“We discussed the future of the PDCE and how we can amplify it. We hope that the board of directors, which will be held very soon, will approve the file relating to additional funding for this program, “said the director of WB operations.

Abdoulaye Seck was also informed of the constraints and challenges of the vocational training and employment sector linked to the insufficient infrastructure to deliver training adapted to the needs of the labor market on the one hand but also to the demographic weight of unemployed youth.

Funded by the World Bank since 2014, the PDCE aims to promote the acquisition and strengthening of skills for employment and entrepreneurship for vulnerable young people living in urban areas, in order to improve their integration into the labor market.

The training offer developed by the PDCE covers hairdressing, sewing, hotels, baking, electricity, car mechanics, welding and carpentry. All these trainings allow young people to have a qualifying training which opens the doors to the employment and micro-enterprise market.

Outside of the Republic of Congo, Abdoulaye Seck is also director of WB operations for Gabon, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea.
