Russian Ambassador Ilyas Iskanderov has been stationed in Libreville for a few months, wasting no time getting to work. He spoke on December 1 with the Minister in charge of Investment Promotion, Carmen Ndaot. The two parties were thus able to review several axes of this cooperation, particularly in economic and commercial matters.
“It was a question for us of reiterating the will of the Head of State and the government to intensify bilateral cooperation between our two countries; Russia and Gabon, “said Carmen Ndaot, recalling that this is” a “long-standing cooperation”.
The government member suggested that it was also necessary to present the tools they have within the ministry, such as ANPI, to see how to facilitate exchanges between the different investors of the two countries. “It was a very concrete meeting, very practical to work on the facilitation of investment for these Russian investors who have expressed their interest in investing in priority sectors, but also in being able to diversify their field of activity”, she added.
The main axes of this cooperation, according to the Moscow representative in Libreville, concern the extraction and processing of hydrocarbons, agriculture, infrastructure and the timber industry. “These are priority areas for the rapid and economic development of your country and these areas are interesting for Russia, for Russian investors,” said Ilyas Iskanderov.
The two parties are already working on several projects such as the Investor’s Days. “There are a number of projects that have been slowed down because of Covid-19,” the member of the government recalled.
The next step should be the arrival of investors on the ground, in Gabon. And this is all that needs to be carefully prepared so that these investments can materialize in the country.
