World Bank approves 5 billion FCFA for Covid 19 response in Gabon

The World Bank approved on May 19 a loan of $ 9 million, or nearly 5.397 billion CFA francs, from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to strengthen the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic in the country.

Gabon will obtain funding of nearly 5.397 billion CFA francs from the World Bank to combat the Coronavirus. This is a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, as part of the Covid-19 strategic response project aimed at strengthening the system. health, particularly in the prevention, detection and management of cases.

According to the World Bank, this support includes, among other things, the provision of equipment and supplies, such as medical ambulances, personal protective equipment and diagnostic kits for laboratory screening. It will also finance the training of health personnel and the establishment of two new Covid-19 diagnostic centers.

“This project builds on the long-term commitment provided by the World Bank to strengthen health systems in Gabon, including the project under preparation on basic health care. It complements the efforts of other development partners as part of a coordinated response, “the Resident Representative of the World Bank in Gabon, Alice Ouedraogo said. In addition to Gabon, the World Bank group in its action against the pandemic plans to deploy up to $ 160 billion in funding over the next 15 months, to help more than 100 countries protect the poor and vulnerable. , support businesses and encourage the recovery of the economy. This includes $ 50 billion in new highly concessional grants and credits from IDA.
