One year after its creation, the performance of the Régie du Terminal à Conteneurs (RTC) of the Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) is satisfactory. Indeed, for the year 2020, the turnover of the RTC is 49 billion 855 million 974 thousand 373 FCFA. Over the same period in 2019, the previous operator of the terminal, Douala International Terminal (DIT), totaled 48 billion 458 million 816 thousand 643 FCFA.
In terms of comparison, between the two periods, “it is necessary to add to the turnover of the RTC, a 10% reduction in land service tariffs evaluated at 3,401,538,165 FCFA. In this respect, the turnover of the RTC would increase to 53,257,512,538 FCFA.
All things at odds with the forecast turnover for 2020 estimated at 48,344,496,253 FCFA. Thus, the RTC achieves a turnover higher than its own forecasts of 1,397,157,730 FCFA “, specifies the daily Le Messager in its edition of Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
And yet in 2020, the RTC faced several difficulties related to the equipment present on the terminal. An advanced deterioration in the condition of this equipment, an aggravated state of obsolescence of the machinery, difficulties in supplying spare parts and in supporting international experts due to the closure of borders, consequences of measures to fight the pandemic of Covid-19, the newspaper said.
Still on behalf of the year 2020, the RTC paid to the PAD, “in respect of the royalties fixed by its Board of Directors, 15 billion 402 million 795 thousand 024 FCFA, against 4 billion 322 million 617 thousand 810 FCFA for the same period in 2019. So for this year, the PAD received 11,080,177,214 FCFA more than what had been paid last year.
Pending the closing of the accounts, it can be taken as an indication that in 2020, the tax contribution of the RTC is 9,254,477,171 FCFA, made up of direct taxes paid and indirect taxes paid through the PAD and certain companies. In 2019, as a reminder, the tax contribution made by DIT was 7 billion 926 million 931 thousand 463 FCFA ”, we learn.
