Leasing: an innovative financing method for Congolese companies

Lease financing has many advantages right from the start of a business, which takes advantage of the equipment needed to get started, without risking debt. In addition to a long-term benefit, the company enjoys tax deductions. In a context of economic and financial crisis, where the national private sector is struggling to mobilize the financing necessary to relaunch activities, leasing financing appears to be the key to getting out of the doldrums.

At its last meeting in mid-February, the National Economic and Financial Committee (CNEF) called on the Congolese government to promote leasing, in order to facilitate access to finance for local businesses.

Indeed, leasing is a means of financing according to which a financial company, called the lessor '', buys a good to make it available to a company, the lender ”, for a fixed period, and in return for a periodic payment. At the end of the tenancy, the tenant can choose to buy the rented property, return it, or sign a new leasing contract.

In addition to the tax advantages, the beneficiary company cannot provide an initial contribution or a security deposit; it benefits from great flexibility in the duration of the contract, with a relatively low financing threshold; its cash flow is preserved and it does not commit equity; it benefits from a free replacement of equipment in the event of failure and a maintenance service included, etc.

This investment, which is still little known in the Republic of the Congo, concerns movable or immovable property, in particular professional equipment and tools such as construction equipment, computer equipment, professional software, industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, medical equipment … There are other more advantageous possibilities.

It should be noted that leasing is accessible to all types of companies, whatever their legal status (sole proprietorship, limited liability company, real estate company, etc.), their type of activity (agricultural, craft, industrial , commercial…) or their size (micro-enterprise, small and medium-sized enterprise, small and medium-sized industry, etc.). However, associations, administrations and local authorities can also subscribe to leasing.
