Huawei to construct new site in Brazzaville

The global information and telecommunications technology giant has secured land (with an area of 6,364.68 m2) at the port of Brazzaville, to install its offices and equipment.

The future headquarters of the Huawei company will be built on part of the estate belonging to the former ATC (Transcongolaise Communications Agency) and the former Cosmos hotel, in the 3 Poto-Poto district. Two decrees issued by the Council of Ministers on May 24, 2017, specify the terms and conditions for the sale of this referent public domain of parcel 9, block 20 of the cadastral plan of the city.

Currently, the area concerned houses a one-stop-shop customs clearance agency, the dilapidated buildings of the former Cosmos hotel. A delegation from the Huawei company met last week with the occupants of the site, to inform them of its intention to start work. The two camps are continuing discussions, for example, on the relocation of customs officers from the Beach and the team of the Postal Bank of Congo working in the same room of the Single Window for customs clearance.

Regarding the exact nature of the activities planned on the site and its reception capacity, the editorial staff of Les Dépêches de Brazzaville tried unsuccessfully to contact Huawei’s social leaders. Currently, the company does not have a fixed headquarters in Brazzaville. It has set up some of its offices in the city of Camp Clairon.

Present in the Congo since 2006, the Huawei company supports the government in the networking of basic telecommunications infrastructure, the implementation of its national strategy for the development of the digital economy, and the training of young people through its flagship program “Seeds for the future ”. As part of the national project for the deployment of optical fiber and the interconnection of the country with its neighbors, it is in charge of the installation of optical signal transmission equipment and energy.
