GICAM submits “White Book” to Labour and SMS Ministers

It was November 9, 2020 in Yaoundé. The delegation of the Cameroon Inter-Patronal Group was led by its president, Célestin Tawamba. The Groupement interpatronal du Cameroun (GICAM) presented its white paper on November 9, 2020 to the Minister of Labor and Social Security (MINTSS), Grégoire Owona, and to the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Social Economy and ‘Crafts (MINPMEESA), Achille Bassilekin III. The GICAM delegation was led by its president Célestin Tawamba.

According to Célestin Tawamba, GICAM’s white paper is the result of the thinking of business leaders. It “contains a series of proposals to the government. The suggestions relate to various areas including the economy, taxation, financing, employment, among others. The document also proposes to the public authorities a new economic model, focused on certain pillars which are agro-business, digital and energy in order to develop the industry. This is our bible, our vision of the economy.

Before the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Cameroonian employers “pleaded for a fruitful and effective dialogue between the government and the private sector”, we can read. In response, Grégoire Owona argued that “there is dialogue between the two sectors. It is just a question, according to him, to move forward and do everything to make this dialogue more productive.”

During the audience with Achille Bassilekin III, business leaders expressed the wish “to see the Minister of SMEs be a true defender of SMEs, with poor funding and a tax system that is not adapted. and which languishes in the informal ”.

At the end of this exchange, the head of this ministerial department indicated that: “the white paper contains a certain number of proposals which are innovative … it was agreed to set up a joint working group so that in this sector, certain proposals formulated and those on which they will work together have the chance to be implemented.”
