GICAM advocates for economic patriotism to summount Covid 19 induced economic shocks

The Cameroon Employers Association known as GICAM has called for economic patriotism in a bid to revive the economy rocked by the coronavirus. This follows an appeal launched during the Board of Directors of the Inter-Employers’ Group of Cameroon, extended to the Presidents of Commissions, after a video conference.

This session, chaired by the president of GICAM, Célestin Tawamba over the weekend, was an opportunity “to take stock of the pandemic, its repercussions on businesses and the actions of the Group in support of members and the economy.”

Regarding the publication of the evaluation report of the socio-economic effects of the coronavirus in Cameroon, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and the United Nations System, “they noted, to welcome this, that The results highlighted in this report confirm the evaluations delivered by the survey carried out by GICAM in April 2020 on the impact of the Covid19 crisis on businesses and highlighted the need for safeguard and recovery measures to contain the slippages and dysfunctions induced by the crisis ”.

GICAM administrators particularly emphasized “economic patriotism which requires more proactive reforms to promote local content, build national champions, develop the circular economy and protect local industry. The publication of the White Book of the Cameroonian economy will thus be an opportunity to present complete proposals on each of these dimensions, “it said.
