Gabon’s government plans to reorganize Civil Engineering corps

In order to regulate one of the most important functions contributing to the implementation of its infrastructure projects, the government plans to soon carry on the baptismal font a Gabonese Order of Civil Engineers. A workshop to validate the related bill is in preparation at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

As one of the countries in the Central African sub-region that does not have a jurisdictional and disciplinary body supposed to control access and the conditions for exercising the function of civil engineer, Gabon intends to catch up before the end of the current year. A draft law relating to the creation of the Gabonese Order of Civil Engineers is in the works at the Ministry of Transport, Equipment, Infrastructure and Housing, which will give rise, in a few weeks, to the holding a validation workshop.

To do this, Léon Armel Bounda Balonzi seeks the contribution of professionals in the field, specifically design engineers in Civil Engineering. The Minister of Infrastructure specifies that all nationalities (Gabonese and expatriates), civil or military, are eligible, provided that they are present and exercise on the national territory. Only engineers providing bilateral or international technical assistance are excluded from the government’s call for contributions on May 15.

The future Gabonese Order of Civil Engineers will ensure in particular the “maintenance of the principles of ethics, integrity and dedication, essential to the exercise of the profession, and the observation by all members of professional duties as well as rules enacted by the Code of ethics ”, announces the Minister of Transport and Infrastructures. Léon Armel Bounda Balonzi added that this body will also have the task of ensuring “the defense of the honor and independence” of professionals, just as it will be responsible for guaranteeing their good conditions of practice. Professionals are invited to apply until 12 noon on May 30, 2020, by visiting the ministry in particular.
