Gabonese citizens to each receive 15,000 FCFA water and 20,000 FCFA electricity “credit” during coronavirus lockdown

The Minister of Energy and Hydraulic Resources of Gabon has announced that, the monthly expenditure inherent in the management of water and electricity during this confinement period is estimated at 7 billion 255 million 10 thousand CFA francs, including 6 billion supported by the State and 1 billion 255 million 10 thousand CFA francs, by the Energy and Water Company of Gabon (SEEG).

Among the measures taken to support populations during this period of health crisis is the free supply of water and electricity. Or, “vital elements for Gabonese,”  the Minister of Energy and Water Resources said. For the application of these free measures, the Minister of Energy has set up with the Energy and Water Company of Gabon (SEEG), a device to make the measures effective.

According to Pascal Houangni Ambouroue, in terms of electricity, the measures concern all low-voltage SEEG customers belonging to the category of individual customers, according to statistical data from low-voltage customers who have subscribed to the social tariff. “That is to say, power less” or equal to 3 kWh, “he said. Or, 188,000 subscribers including 160,000 Edan customers for a support amount of 3 billion 760 thousand CFA francs, including 3 billion 200 million CFA francs for Edan meters.

According to the Minister of Energy, low voltage customers having subscribed to a non-social subscription power greater than 3 kWh and less than 6 kWh are estimated at 60,000 200 subscribers including 55,000 Edan customers.

“Thus, the level of support is 1 billion 204 million CFA francs including 1 billion 100 million CFA francs for Edan meters. This gives a total of 248,000 200 subscribers for an amount of 4 billion 964 million CFA francs who will benefit from this free measure, ” Pascal Houangni Ambouroue explains.

The breakdown, he said, is 215 thousand subscribers for 4 billion 300 million CFA francs for Edan customers and 33 thousand 200 subscribers for support of 664 million CFA francs for low-voltage meter customers. classics. At the water level, it concerns all customers in the particular category, that is 152 thousand 734 subscribers for a support amount of 2 billion 291 million 10 thousand CFA francs.

“Ultimately, this measure to cover consumption of water and electricity covers 152,000 734 water customers in the category of individuals for an amount of coverage of 2 billion 291 million 10 thousand CFA francs” , Pascal Houangni Ambouroue highlighted.

160 thousand social customers in electricity at the Edan meter will be supported for a monthly amount of 3 billion 200 million CFA francs. 28,000 social customers in electricity on the conventional meter, for a monthly charge of 560 million CFA francs. 55,000 non-social electricity customers on the Edan meter, for monthly support of 1 billion 100 million CFA francs. 5200 non-social customers in electricity, using a conventional meter to cover 104 million CFA francs. “

The monthly expenditure inherent in taking this measure is therefore 7 billion 255 million 10 thousand CFA francs, of which 6 billion are paid by the State and 1 billion 255 million 10 thousand CFA francs are paid for by SEEG”, he summed up.

According to Pascal Houangni Ambouroue, to benefit from free water, customers’ accounts will be credited by SEEG in the amount of 15,000 CFA francs per month. In low voltage electricity, the accounts of customers with a conventional meter will be credited with an amount of 20,000 CFA francs per month, same as for Edan customers. However, he said, Edan customers will receive a 20,000 franc monthly ticket from the SEEG website following the procedure that requires a computer and an internet connection. For those who do not have it, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has decided that SEEG will identify several sites to support people in difficulty. Regarding the water cut-off during the containment period, “all customers who have accumulated arrears before the period will not be suspended from their supply of water and electricity”.
