Gabon shares out more than 20.000 Food Bank vouchers for about 500 million FCFA to needy persons

Ten days after the launch of the activities of the Food Bank, the Ministry of National Solidarity claims the distribution of 20,424 vouchers in total in several districts of Grand Libreville. The monetary value of this aid to vulnerable populations is estimated, this Friday, April 24, at nearly 505 million CFA francs

Launched 10 days earlier, the distribution of food vouchers as part of the Food Bank’s activities impacted a total of 93,742 people in several districts of Grand Libreville. The progress report made this Friday by the Ministry of National Solidarity also reveals that 20,424 food stamps have been distributed in recent days, including 7,133 for the single day of Thursday, April 23. On occasion, Minister Prisca Nlend Koho insisted on distributing kits and vouchers herself in the Kinguélé district, reputed to be one of the most dangerous in the capital.

As of April 24, according to Tony Engouma, spokesperson for the Food Bank, the monetary value of the vouchers and food kits made available to beneficiaries is estimated at 504,975,000 CFA francs. To date, 17,122 households have been visited by volunteers responsible for distributing food aid.

If the Food Bank had hardly launched its activities on April 14 with only 3,000 vouchers made available by the Ceca-Gadis group, partner of the State in this operation, the Ministry of National Solidarity informs that it has been in possession, since April 22, of all of the 60,000 vouchers provided for the duration of its activities in the field.

Tony Engouma also asserts that, “contrary to the ideas conveyed by social media, distributors do not qualify those who are beneficiaries of vouchers or kits to a criterion related to the standing of the house. They identify the household and then give a food voucher or kit depending on whether the family interviewed corresponds to one of the targets ”.

The distribution of food vouchers or kits mainly benefits people living with disabilities, widows and orphans in distress, retirees, the elderly, vulnerable families and people in distress due to confinement, specifies the Ministry of National Solidarity.
