Gabon grabs 163rd position in Global pricing of mobile data

Gabon is the 163rd country in the world and 38 in Africa where the average cost of a Gigabyte of mobile data is affordable. It costs 4.89 US dollars, or 2,958.50 CFA francs according to data from the data market in 238 countries gathered by the cable.co.uk site in its study entitled: “Global pricing of mobile data: the cost of 1 GB of mobile data in 228 countries .”

Gabon has dropped in the 2020 ranking of countries in the world where the average cost of a Gigabyte of mobile data is affordable. Despite a cost lowered to 4.89 US dollars, or 2,958.50 CFA francs for 1 GB in 2020 compared to 5.84 US dollars (3,533 CFA francs) in 2019, the country lost 37 places from the 126th rank 163rd globally and 4 places in Africa where it currently occupies 38th place behind Congo and Cameroon.

According to data collected and analyzed by Cable.co.uk, out of 5,554 mobile data plans in 228 countries between February 3 and February 25, 2020, the average cost of a gigabyte in Gabon is US $ 4.89 ( 2,958.50 CFA francs). The lowest cost is 0.97 US dollars (587 CFA francs) and the most expensive cost according to operators is 32.99 US dollars (19 953 CFA francs).

In sub-Saharan Africa, eight of the 50 cheapest countries in the world for mobile data come from this region. This contrasts sharply with the cost of broadband on the continent, which is almost universally very high or non-existent. Somalia is in the top 10, with 1 GB of data for only $ 0.50. Sub-Saharan Africa also claims some of the most expensive countries in the world for the moving date. Saint Helena, whose average cost for 1 GB of mobile data is a watering of $ 52.50, is joined at the bottom of the table by other countries in the region: São Tomé and Príncipe, Malawi and Benin.
