Gabon attracts Canadian investors to the Wood sector

Wishing to make it one of the main pillars of the national economy, the Gabonese state, represented by the Minister in charge of Forests, recently presented to Canadian investors the opportunities offered by this sector, particularly in the processing of wood at the local level.

Gabon intends to make its forestry sector one of the main pillars of its economy. The authorities’ ambition is to make it one of the country’s biggest job providers. But in order to do so, they hope to attract more international investors with extensive experience in the field in addition to having the necessary infrastructure.

Representing his country at the virtual seminar on Friday, October 23 focusing on investment opportunities in Central Africa in the forest sector, Pr Lee White did not fail to present to potential Canadian investors the different advantages of investing in the forest-wood sector, particularly in processing. Especially since Gabon made the choice, 10 years ago, to ban the exports of logs in order to favor the first and second processing at the local level.

“We are looking for companies interested in bringing the technology we need to move from the first to the second and then to the third processing of wood; companies specializing in the exploitation of forest plantations by combining plantation wood with natural wood to create finished products, as well as companies experienced in the transformation of wood into prefabricated buildings ”, indicated the Minister of Water and Forests , the Sea, the Environment, responsible for the Climate Plan and the Land Use Plan.

This webinar, which also attended by representatives of the Chadian, Cameroonian and Congolese (DRC) governments, was jointly organized by the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the global network of professionals of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS).
