“EStartup Challenge”: Gabon and the World Bank put into play CFAF 300 million

Launched on September 9 in Libreville by the Ministry of Communication and the Digital Economy, in partnership with the World Bank, the business plan competition called “eStartup Challenge” will reward the best businesses presented in all sectors of activity. in connection with digital technology, primarily in the field of e-health.

With the aim of promoting entrepreneurship among young people and supporting local small businesses, the Gabonese government and the World Bank, through the eGabon project, are organizing the Business Plan Competition called the “eStartup Challenge”. Launched on September 9 in Libreville to run until October 31, 2020, this national competition aims to reward the best projects in all sectors of activity related to digital, primarily in the field of digital health (e-health)

The organizers are announcing an envelope of 300 million FCFA to be shared between the 10 different winners of this competition, one of the main objectives of which is “to respond to the problem of unemployment among young people”, in particular by encouraging self-employment. . Applicants who have distinguished themselves by the viability of their projects will also benefit from 12-month support within an incubator.

As part of the “eStartup Challenge”, two main categories are offered to project leaders, namely: so-called “startup” startups and “growing” startups. For the first category, these are candidates (three per team) presenting “necessarily” a technical profile and a managerial profile, with at their disposal a prototype or a functional and testable service. The second category will take into account companies with an innovative business model, a product or a service already deployed and generating income. At the end of the competition, there will be 5 winners per category.

For this first edition, only three provinces are taken into account, namely: Estuary, Haut-Ogooué and Ogooué-Maritime.
