Congo to preside over BDEAC

The Minister of Finance and Budget, Calixte Nganongo, will lead the meetings of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the Development Bank of African States (BDEAC) during the current year.

To keep abreast of current issues and those that will be on the menu of future meetings, the Minister of Finance and Budget met, on March 5 in Brazzaville, with the president of this sub-regional financial institution, Fortunato-Ofa Mbo Nchama.

“Thanks to the reforms that took place at BDEAC in 2019, the presidency of the General Assembly and of the Board of Directors is now rotating. This year, it is the Congo that will chair the meetings of these two bodies for a year, “said the president of BDEAC.

“Since we are in the process of closing the audits, I came to report and present the current situation, especially to discuss the programming of the meeting of the bodies which will be held in the coming days”, he continued.

The priority issues that will be at the table of the next BDEAC meeting will relate to the financing of private sector development projects as well as integrative projects. The accounts for the 2020 financial year will also be analyzed and approved on this occasion.

In addition to the audience with the president of BDEAC, Calixte Nganongo also spoke with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) in Congo, Micaelo Marques de Sousa. The well-being of children in the Republic of Congo despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis was the main topic discussed.

“I congratulate the government for the efforts made, which demonstrate not only a political will but also the determination to see each child flourish in an environment where health and education are at the heart of the country’s development,” said the Minister. representative of Unicef.
