CIMAF invests 9 billion francs to make Gabon self-sufficient in cement

Cimaf Gabon has invested nine billion CFA francs to expand its factory in Owendo. The new production line will boost the company’s production capacity by an additional 350,000 tonnes of cement, which will cover national demand.

Located in Owendo, the Cimaf Gabon plant is under construction with the addition of a new cement production line. The expansion will boost the company’s production capacity by 350,000 tonnes of additional cement.

Already strong with a production of 500,000 tonnes of cement, Cimaf Gabon’s production will now amount to 850,000 tonnes per year, thereby helping to meet local demand, estimated at 600,000 tonnes per year.

“If we take into account the production of CimGabon, estimated at 150,000 tonnes per year, and Africa Cement which is around 200,000 tonnes, we can easily say that Gabon should consider exporting cement.”

With Cimaf Gabon’s new production line, scheduled to open in late June, annual production will be 1.2 million tonnes. Or twice the national demand. With such a horizon, the fall in the price of a ton of cement is possible, according to Cimaf Gabon.

Specializing in the manufacture and marketing of cement, Cimaf is present in 13 African countries where it claims annual production of 8.95 million tonnes. Its ambition is to be a recognized operator in Africa in a strategic sector for the development of the continent and a professional and competitive player, contributing to the diversification of the offer and the strengthening of the industrial fabric.
