40 Chadian customs officers have been undergoing training since Monday, September 14, on insurance for the transport of goods from and to Chad. This training aims to provide the necessary tools to these agents to enable them to support economic operators in taking out freight transport insurance.
Initiated by the General Directorate of Customs and Indirect Tax Services, this training is “part of a transaction value implementation strategy for the purpose of supporting Chadian economic operators to subscribe to Goods Transport Insurance to minimize the risks associated with the movement of goods on land, sea, air and rail to and from Chad, ” Abakar Annour, representative of the Director-General of Customs in his remarks said.
Focused on customs clearance operations in goods transport insurance, the aim of this training was “to raise awareness and help operators in the culture and principle of international trade with less risk”. In turn, it aims to familiarize customs officials with these concepts, because it is they who will be in phase to ensure the follow-up of legal provisions.
During this training where two modules constituted the subject of presentation, customs officers will have not only “to familiarize themselves with the insurance policy but also to identify the contours of transport insurance and efficiently manage the customs declaration” the representative of the Chief Executive Officer specified.
Made compulsory by Decree No. 736 of 19 November 1985, transport insurance for imports into Chad is struggling with regard to its effective application. Reason and this is the reason that led Customs to equip its agents with the technical instruments to integrate the modernization undertaken. Has this decree fallen into disuse? this question will be at the center of the debates that will feed the training.
While recalling that the customs services have the fiscal mission, the economic mission and the assistance to the other administrations, the quintessence of this workshop remains the control of the value of the customs.
