Arise IIP, a subsidiary of the pan-African group Arise, will develop an industrial and logistics activity zone on the banks of the Dibamba River with an area of approximately 122 hectares. It is within the framework of the implementation of this project that the Director General of the Douala Ports Authority (PAD), Cyrius Ngo’o, and Kumar Mohan, the Central African regional representative for of Arise IIP signed a partnership agreement on September 30.
“The project to develop an industrial-port zone on the banks of the Dibamba is a major project, made up of two main major components. A modal logistics component, which will allow a certain number of port activities to be transferred to the Dibamba site, to relieve congestion at the current site, and the access routes to the city of Douala. The second component is the integrated industrial platform which constitutes a major challenge today for our country,” explains Joseph Nguene Nteppe, Director of the Analysis, Foresight and Cooperation Division at PAD.
Concretely, the Dibamba industrial zone located about ten kilometers from the city center of Douala, will allow the Autonomous Port of Douala to manage large volumes of goods from hinterland countries, i.e. 100% of the freight from Chad and the CAR. Also, it will not only decongest the PAD, but also create new industries in various fields with a view to the structural transformation of the national economy.
“This platform aims to establish several industries in sectors such as agriculture, agro-industry, mining, pharmaceuticals, wood, etc. to enable Cameroon to carry out local processing of its raw materials and meet the objective of import substitution,” adds Joseph Nguene Nteppe.
According to the content of the agreement covered by L’Economie, companies will be created as part of the execution of this project, and each will be responsible for the development of a specific agreement. Similarly, as part of the realization and management of the multimodal logistics zone, a company called Dibamba Douala Port Logistics Platform (DDLP) will be created, and of which PAD and Arise will be co-shareholders.
