AfDB reinforces capacity of Congolese Agric Experts

The African Development Bank (AfDB) offers the Republic of Congo to strengthen the capacities of local producers with a view to developing agriculture. This proposal was made on June 8 in Brazzaville by the AfDB’s vice president in charge of agriculture, Atsoko Toda.

To this end, the high-level team of the ADB proposed to the Congolese party represented by the ministers of Agriculture, Land Affairs, Higher Education, Planning and the advisor to the Head of State in agriculture, an innovative model consisting in particular of building the capacities of actors in the agricultural sector.

“Let us know the vision of the Head of State and then the challenges of the agricultural sector, the Congolese must tell us what other type of capacity building they want to have. This is when the bank with all its knowledge and connections will deploy the appropriate assistance, “said the Deputy Director General of the ADB, Serge Marie N’Guessan.

“The capacity building component must be considered quickly by the Congolese side to allow us to quickly see results. A whole awareness and advocacy mechanism that involves the Head of State will have to be developed. We will bring you our experience, ”he continued.

In addition to the training component, the Congo is also requested to set up a task force to coordinate all activities relating to the program, to restructure the Prodivac project, to urgently take a decision on the institutional mechanism.

“We have just witnessed a restitution made by the ADB. They outlined the main lines of this program. The government is impatient to receive the aide-memoire which will re-specify each of the axes of this program for which a consensus is already emerging, “said Minister of Planning Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas, as governor. She also noted that this program is certainly an emergency, but it must take into account the constitutional system of the Congo.

Recall that the AfDB’s intention to help the Congo to develop its agricultural value chains follows the request of the Congolese Head of State to the president of this pan-African financial institution who has been supporting this country in various fields for nearly 50 years. years.
