AfDB reinforces capacity of Cameroon staff

The African Development Bank (www.AfDB.org) organized a workshop on Institutional and Clinical Fiduciary Strengthening (RICF) from September 21 to 23 in Ebolowa, southern Cameroon, as part of its cooperation with the government from Cameroon.

This workshop, coordinated by the African Development Institute (ECAD) and organized in collaboration with the Bank’s country office in Cameroon and several key departments concerned by the theme, aimed to build capacities in order to improve operational performance of portfolio projects and strengthen development effectiveness in Cameroon.

About fifty participants took part in this session, including project coordinators, procurement officers, financial management and disbursement officers, monitoring and evaluation officers of project implementation units as well as senior officials of Cameroon’s Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development and government agencies involved in the implementation of portfolio operations.

The Chief Coordinator of RICF at ECAD, Ms. Ann Sow Dao, who provided the overall coordination of the workshop, presented the concept of the fiduciary clinic and its background, as well as the objectives and practical details of holding this workshop. . She indicated that the organization of the RICF is intended to be preventive and curative in order to maximize the development impact of the Cameroon country program. According to her, this is an opportunity for discussions between designers, supervisors and those responsible for implementing projects, a moment of dialogue between Cameroon and the Bank.

The head of the Bank’s country office in Cameroon, also Acting Director General for Central Africa, Solomane Koné, thanked the participants as well as the Cameroonian government for its support in the organization of the workshop and the accompaniment projects co-financed by the Bank in Cameroon. He recalled that the implementation of the conclusions of the workshop would contribute to the efficiency of the management of projects co-financed by the Bank in the country as well as to the improvement of the absorption capacity of the country.

The Director of Regional Integration at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Territorial Development, Ms. Dorothy Tataw Bekolo, thanked the Bank, on behalf of the Cameroonian government, for this initiative. She invited the participants to make the most of this learning opportunity in order to ensure good management of their respective projects. She recalled that the new performance evaluation policy requires that project managers be evaluated on the basis of their project management performance.

The participants, who actively took part in the different sessions, welcomed the very enriching exchanges during the three days of work.
