Gabon has just set up an International Institute for Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation (IIMAC). This is an Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation Center inaugurated on December 23, the objective of which is to settle all disputes of a contractual nature or relating to public investment and to reach a consensus. and amicably to conflict resolution in the business sector.
An initiative of the former candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Yvette Ngwevilo Rekangalt, also a businesswoman, lawyer who worked for several years as a lawyer in the oil and gas industry before creating her own company, the International Institute of Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation (IIMAC) was inaugurated on December 23 in Libreville. It is indeed a tribunal whose mission is to render arbitration decisions in disputes between economic operators.
Inaugurated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice, François Mangari, this structure which promotes alternative dispute resolution methods in business circles, intends to deploy its expertise in commercial and investment arbitration, conciliation and mediation across the country.
The symbolic ribbon of the International Institute for Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation was cut on December 23 in Libreville.
“The texts of the IIMAC were designed and translate the provisions of the Ohada Uniform Acts (Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa – Editor’s note) relating to arbitration and mediation, such as internationally recognized best practices and admitted, ”said the promoter of the IIMAC.
For his part, the President of the Bar Association of Gabon, Mr. Lubin Ntoutoume, hailed another opportunity for investors whose ambitions are often undermined by the slowness and cumbersome state justice. The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice believes that this initiative will help improve the business climate in the country.
The IIMAC was created in March 2020 and is expected to participate in the settlement of disputes in the economic sector based on the consent of the parties involved, and to develop a fair and reasonable agreement respecting the needs of each party.
