UBA Cameroon donates 150 million FCFA to support Government’s Covid 19 Relief Efforts

The United Bank for  Africa – UBA Cameroon has officially handed over a cheque worth 150 million  FCFA through the UBA Foundation, to the Minister of Public Health Manaouda Malachie who received this gesture on behalf of the Cameroon Government. 

The Managing Director /CEO of UBA Cameroon Dominique Mahend and the Board Chairman Ekoko Mukete handed over the cheque of FCFA150 million destined to catalyse a comprehensive response to the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic in Cameroon.

The donation will provide significant and much needed support to Cameroon, in terms of relief materials and critical care facilities, to the efforts to stop the spread of the covid-19. 

The Minister of Public Health thanked UBA Cameroon& the UBA Foundation for the donation which comes at a time when the whole nation is called upon to rally against the coronavirus. He sent congratulations to the management of the group for remaining a citizen institution while calling on others to emulate this example. These funds will go into getting the urgently needed medical supplies.

In the same light, the  UBA Board Chairman Ekoko Mukete called on the authorities to put these funds to serve the urgent needs for medical and sanitation equipment which will go a long way to help stop the spread of the virus. The UBA Foundation has been carrying out a lot of work in the fields of education, health and economic empowerment.

The MD/CEO echoed the words of the UBA Group Chairman Tony O. Elumelu ‘This is a time when we must all play our part.  This global epidemic must bring citizens, governments and business leaders together – and quickly. As we see a rapidly increasing number of cases of the coronavirus in Africa, the private sector must work hand in hand with various Governments, in stemming the spread of the global pandemic.

 He also commended the efforts of the government through the Ministry of Public Health who are on the front line in combating the covid-19 outbreak. According to him everybody should play their part no matter how big or small for it is only in this way that the situation will improve.
