Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso began his visit to Pointe-Noire with a working session with the leaders of the Autonomous Port, with whom he discussed current projects and the 2030 vision of this port infrastructure.
Accompanied, among others, by the Minister in charge of General Education, Jean-Luc Mouthou, the head of government visited the various compartments of the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire, a deep-water port, the first in the sub-region. Indeed, this port is one of the most important in sub-Saharan Africa and the strategic maritime exit gateway for Congo, which handles 1 million containers per year. The authorities’ vision is to reach 2 million containers per year. Currently, dredging work is being carried out at certain levels with the hope of restoring depth along the quays.
At the end of his visit, the Prime Minister explained that his visit allowed him to discover and understand the assets, progress and difficulties of this strategic infrastructure. “The autonomous port of Pointe-Noire is an important pillar in the framework of the mobilization and rationalization of domestic resources. The President of the Republic challenges us every time he makes us note that there is no reason why other ports, across the continent, can mobilize more resources than the port of Pointe-Noire, which is one of the largest deep-water ports and with all the investments we have made ,” recalled Anatole Collinet Makosso.
According to him, the government is currently carrying out a major reform to enable the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire to bring dividends that are needed to finance the development of the economy. “I had to come and see what is being done and how so that when we have to talk about these issues, we can be at the same level of information and consider together the reforms to be made ,” he continued.
The head of the executive and his entourage also went off the coast to complete their visit to this port. Throughout the navigation, they realized that Congo is a tourist destination par excellence, several dolphins and whales were seen and observed. The country is banking on tourism promotion through activities of this kind, Anatole Collinet Makosso invites young people to get involved in this sector to occupy their holidays, create jobs and generate wealth.
“What we admire in other countries can also be done here. We were treated to a very beautiful spectacle with this observation of whales and dolphins. As you know, for a long time, under the impetus of the Minister of Cultural and Tourism Industry and many other young people who promote tourism, there are tourism companies that are developing and that we support, we have been receiving cruise ships for a while and when we target activities of this type, alongside the observation of whales, dolphins, there are the periods of spawning of sea turtles. When these periods are circumscribed, we can now better organize sea cruises ,” explained the Prime Minister.
Determined to promote tourism in the country and to enhance the Congolese natural heritage, Anatole Collinet Makosso congratulated all the young people who are engaged in this type of tourism promotion activities, while calling on them to seize the various opportunities in the tourism industry. According to the head of the executive, this visit clearly illustrates the government’s desire to diversify the national economy by focusing on the development of environmentally friendly tourism, capable of revealing to the world the beauty and wealth of Congo.
