Rasit Pertev, the new Resident Representative of the World Bank in Chad, officially took office on August 19 in N’Djamena. Since July 1, 2020, he coordinated the activities of the Chad Office remotely because of the border closures, linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As part of his mission in Chad, Rasit Pertev will have the main priorities of implementing the partnership framework with the country for the 2019-2023 fiscal years; maintain and strengthen good working relations with the government and other stakeholders in Chad and with the international community; to supervise the interventions of the Chad office team to achieve results for the benefit of the government.

A Turkish national, Rasit Pertev was previously Secretary of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). He first joined the Bank in 2003 and has worked as a Senior Agricultural Economist based in Turkey and Uganda and more recently as Resident Representative for Comoros. He has over 25 years of development experience, starting with community development in Zambia.

The new World Bank representative in Chad has served as Deputy Secretary-General of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Energy, and Chief Negotiator of the United Nations peace talks in Cyprus.
