MTN Cameroon presents Online platform to boost newspaper sales to Journalists

Presenting an innovative platform to boost online newspaper sales, familiarizing media people with the use of AI, this could be summed up in the Master class organized on August 30, 2024 in Yaoundé by MTN Cameroon, the Cameroonian subsidiary of the South African mobile telephony giant.

In a context where digital technology is developing rapidly. About a hundred journalists, including publication directors, were able to appreciate the digital solutions presented by Thierry Mindjos, Expert in Artificial Intelligence, head of the Marketing and B2B department at MTN Cameroon. By presenting these offers, it is a question of acknowledging the gradual migration of local media and its men/women towards digital technology. Listing some of the difficulties encountered in capturing the financial flow generated by the physical sale of newspapers. Thierry Mindjos called for the use of innovative digital tools to capitalize further. From advanced marketing tools to the online sales application, not to mention revenue collection mechanisms.

The hundred journalists were enlightened, although divergent opinions were expressed on the question of the use of AI. While for some, each article produced reflects the soul of its author; others still think that the use of AI is becoming imperative given the all-out developments observed on the world stage. To the recalcitrant, “It all depends on the data you enter into cutting-edge applications like Chat GPT, Colipot… EtEtc”, launched Thierry Mindjos.

Organized in partnership with Fedipresse, the event also allowed the leader in mobile telephony in Cameroon to equip publishing directors with computer equipment. To this end, MTN Cameroon proceeded to hand over a donation of 40 computers. An endowment received jointly by Parfait Siki, Executive Secretary of Fedipresse and Guibaï Gatama, Treasurer within the same association.

Leaving the CDIC (Cameroon Digital Innovation Center) room, where the Master class was held, Parfait Siki, Secretary General of Fedipresse, confided that, “… Overall, journalists should take ownership of digital marketing and artificial intelligence, which is a real technological revolution in the processing of information.”
