Two related conventions were signed on December 2, 2020 in Yaoundé. As part of the Lake Chad Basin Development Project, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine Ousmane Mey, chaired the signing ceremony of two financing agreements in the premises of his ministerial department on December 2, 2020 in Yaoundé.
The national bilingual daily Cameroon Tribune on newsstands this December 3, 2020 affirms that: “one of the agreements was signed between the government of Great Britain and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the amount of 1 , 1 billion FCFA, while the other was concluded between the French government and the UNDP for an amount of 164 million FCFA ”.

Thus, UNDP-Cameroon has “developed two lines of intervention: the immediate stabilization of specific areas, freed from the influence of Boko Haram but where communities remain vulnerable; and the implementation of community activities along humanitarian corridors in conjunction with the security forces and local authorities, ”notes the newspaper.
For UK High Commissioner Rowan Laxton, “this project is a very important installation that can change the situation on the ground, give some optimism, and give a new dynamic to this region. We are proud to enter into this partnership, ”the newspaper notes.
With this funding, “it is a question of continuing the dynamic which goes beyond the department of Mayo-Sava where actions are already visible but also those of Logone-et-Chari, Mayo-Tsanaga with the construction of infrastructures. This with the aim of restoring confidence within the populations, the presence of the administrative authorities and the security forces but especially the presence of the populations themselves to go about their occupations ”, wished MINEPAT at our colleague.
As a reminder, the Lake Chad Basin Development Project was launched in Niamey, Niger on July 17, 2020. It concerns four countries: Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria.
