IRAD puts improved seedlings at the disposal of the CAC

This is the essence of the partnership agreement that the two institutions signed on November 10, 2020. In its role of boosting the socio-economic development of the country by making the results of agricultural research available to stakeholders in the rural world , the Agricultural Research Institute for Development (IRAD) signed a partnership agreement with the Caisse agroastorale du Cameroun (CAC).

It was November 10, 2020 in Yaoundé, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation, Rebecca Madeleine Ebelle Etame.

In this agreement, “it is question for IRAD to support the CAC in the cultivation of corn by providing it with its technical expertise and improved seeds which will cover 6000 hectares of land predisposed in different regions”, reports the national bilingual daily Cameroon. For Noé Woin, Director General of IRAD, “the institution will also provide its know-how, technical expertise and advice through the institution’s researchers. It also intends to make available to the agro-pastoral fund, its varieties of corn and other different patented varieties of speculation, ”notes the reporter.

As for the chairman of the CAC executive council, Armand Doudjo, it is “a godsend to be in partnership with IRAD. As a first step, the launch of the One Million Members ’campaign will benefit from the advantages that the research institution will make available to them. In particular, improved seeds, the various studies on economic zones in Cameroon ”, we read.

“The agro-pastoral fund will also benefit from studies related to the construction of a fertilizer manufacturing plant … The agro-industry is not left out, because the construction of a corn processing plant is planned. a capacity of 28,000 T / year, that of a bakery for the production of breads and cakes and other derivatives based on potato flour ”, we can read.
