The Ministry of Economy’s Sectoral Outlook Note, devoted to the months of July, August and September, analyzes the performance of the cash crop agriculture sector. In this part of the Gabonese economy, palm plantations have weighed down this segment. As for wet rubber production, it improved by 18.5% in the third quarter of 2024.
The activity of the cash crop sector was weighed down in the third quarter by the production of palm bunches, which fell by 23% over the period under review. After two consecutive quarters of increase, in fact, the index for this segment turned around by 11.8% at the end of the third quarter of 2024. After 9 months of activity in 2024, the index fell slightly by 5.6%.

At the end of the third quarter of 2024, indicates the Sectoral Economic Outlook Note prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Investments, the palm harvest index has, in fact, decreased by 23%, quarter-on-quarter. This underperformance is explained by low rainfall and the devastating effect of pachyderms on plantations (Mouila and Awala, in particular), the document states. Similarly, over the first 9 months of the year, the palm harvest fell by 9.6%.
As for the wet rubber production activity, it improved by 18.5% following the strong increase recorded in the previous quarter. This development is justified by the dynamism of ORG and the normalization of ABG’s activities thanks to the State’s entry into its capital. Over the period, activity shuddered by 5.7% for the reasons mentioned above.
